MMA Combat - Jones Eyes Title Defense vs. Jackson in September

UFC light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones (13-1-0) recently stated in an interview with mmajunkie.com that Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (32-8-0) will most likely be his first title defense, and if he has it his way, the youngest champion in the promotion's history would like to make that happen in September of this year.

"I'll be fighting Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson next," said the champ on Thursday. "I'm not allowed to discuss the date because I didn't sign a contract, but yeah, it will be very soon."

Jones, who originally was scheduled to face former teammate Rashad Evans at UFC 133, was forced to withdraw from the date as a result of an injured hand; after deciding not to undergo surgery on the advise of his doctor, "Bones" says the hand is healing just fine and will be ready for action come this fall.

After dominating fellow wrestlers Vladimir Matyushenko and Ryan Bader in consecutive bouts, Jones was announced as the next title challenger this past February when teammate Rashad Evans was forced to withdraw from UFC 128 due to a knee injury suffered during training. Jones went on to crush Mauricio Rua in the Brazilian's first title defense, stopping the PRIDE and UFC veteran on third round strikes, while capturing the 205lbs title.

Dana White declared prior to UFC 130 that a win for "Rampage" would position him as the division's number one contender; however, doubt ensued when Jackson revealed after the bout that he likely had a broken hand, which had hampered him before and during his fight with Matt Hamill. X-rays on the former champion's hand indicated the injury is not as serious as it was first believed to be, re-opening the door for this blockbuster clash.
