MMA Combat - UFC 139 Adds Torres vs. Pace, McDonald vs. Eduardo

UFC officials announced Tuesday that a pair of bantamweight bouts will be added to the UFC 139 - Henderson vs. Shogun fight card, scheduled to take place November 19, 2011, live from the H-P Pavilion in San Jose, California. The event will feature a light-heavyweight showdown between former UFC 205lbs champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua and former Strikeforce champion Dan Henderson.

Former WEC bantamweight King Miguel Torres (39-4-0) and Team Schulmann representative Nick Pace (6-2-0) will tow-the-line with both competitors desperate for a win after coming off recent losses to Demetrious Johnson and Ivan Menjivar respectively.

Losing his 135lbs title to powerful wrestler Brian Bowles on first round strikes in 2009, Torres was then stopped by Team Alpha Male's Joseph Benavidez to begin 2010 when the one-time title challenger caught the submission ace in a Guillotine Choke mid-way through the second round. Torres bounced back with consecutive wins, including his UFC debut when he bested Antonio Banuelos, but most recently was set back with a controversial decision loss to current #1 contender Demetrious Johnson at UFC 130.

Pace also finds himself at 1-1 since joining the UFC ranks, defeating Will Campuzano in his promotion debut before dropping a unanimous decision to veteran Canadian Ivan Menjivar at UFC 133. The New York native forfeits a considerable experience edge to his seasoned counter-part, but has never been stopped in eight professional appearances.

The second 135lbs contest will feature rising star Michael "Mayday" McDonald (13-1-0) when he brings his pressing style to table against Johnny Eduardo (25-9-0).

At just 20 years of age, McDonald boasts thirteen professional wins with seven coming by way of TKO, and has been stopped only once in his young career by veteran talent Cole Escovedo in 2009. McDonald has since compiled six consecutive wins with his most recent coming at UFC 130 where he defeated Chris Cariaso by decision.

Nova Uniao's Johnny Eduardo was riding an eleven fight winning streak coming into his UFC debut this past August where he was defeated by Raphael Assuncao on all three judge's cards at UFC 134. The 33-year old veteran Brazilian holds thirteen wins by way of submission, but on the flip side has lost seven times by the same method.
