MMA Combat - Barnett: Title Would Be Nice, But Its Absence Doesn't Change Things

MMA Combat - Barnett: Title Would Be Nice, But Its Absence Doesn't Change Things

With Manny Gamburyan and Diego Nunes injured and hence removed from the UFC 135 card, the promotion has announced another featherweight match that will fill the void; UFC veteran and submission specialist Junior Assuncao (12-4-0) will battle promotion new-comer Eddie Yagin (15-4-1) on the evening's undercard.

Assuncao made his first stint with the UFC in 2006/2007, going 1-2 with a submission win and two submission losses. Most recently, the 30 year old out of Athens, Georgia, has compiled six-straight victories with his last three all coming by first round stoppage. Yagin, out of Alliance MMA in Honolulu, Hawaii, has won consecutive bouts and seven of his previous eight. In his most recent appearance, "The Filipino Phenom" caught Bellator veteran Joe Soto with a first round Guillotine Choke, halting the contest two minutes into the very first round.

UFC 135 will take place September 24, 2011, at the Pepsi Center in Denver, Colorado; the event will feature a light-heavyweight title showdown pitting number one contender Quinton "Rampage" Jackson (32-8-0) against 24 year old champion, Jon "Bones" Jones (13-1-0). The co-main event will see UFC legend Matt Hughes go toe-to-toe with TUF Season 1 winner, Diego Sanchez.
