| Can "Nog" stop the surging Schaub? |
MONDAY May 16, UFC President Dana White confirmed earlier today that Brendan Schaub (8-1-1) will in fact face former PRIDE and UFC champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (32-6-1) at UFC 134 - Rio, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 27, 2011.
"The Hybrid" had been campaigning for the bout for some time, and will get his shot at adding another PRIDE FC legend to his growing resume this summer in hostile territory. Schaub is a winner in four straight fights since being knocked-out by Roy Nelson at the Ultimate Fighter 10 Finale in December of 2009. He last competed in March at UFC 128, where he stopped Mirko Cro-Cop via KO in round 3.
Schaub has managed four wins since Nogueira last competed inside the octagon, with "Minotauro" undergoing a series of surgeries in that time to repair an ailing hip and knee. Nogueira was stopped on punches in February of 2010 when he battled current UFC heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez in a title eliminator. The Brazilian star holds notable victories over Randy Couture, Tim Sylvia, Josh Barnett, Fabricio Werdum and Mirko Cro-Cop among others, and will look to dazzle the crowd once more in front of a home-town crowd at the HSBC Arena in Rio.
