Dana White had the following to say via UFC.com regarding the match-up on; “Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Dos Anjos has won ‘Fight of the Night’ and ‘Submission of the Night’ awards, and Sotiropoulos has won ‘Fight of the Night’ twice, so I expect an amazing fight."
After posting three consecutive victories inside the octagon dos Anjos (14-5-0) fell short in his last outing, tapping to Clay Guida in the third round as a result of a jaw injury. The Brazilian Jiu Jitsu ace who holds seven victories by way of submission and has lost back-to-back contests only once in his career to date (Jeremy Stephens and Tyson Griffin).
Sotiropoulos (14-3-0) is also coming off a loss, as the submission specialist was bested by Dennis Siver at UFC 127 - Penn vs. Fitch via unanimous decision. The Aussie was a perfect 7-0 inside the octagon before that bout and looks to get back in the winning column, and title picture, with a win this summer. Sotiropoulos has finished eight of his opponents via submission and has never been stopped in his professional career.
