MMA Combat - Emelianenko vs. Henderson Confirmed, Will be Contested at Heavyweight

After suffering a second loss in a row Fedor Emelianenko hinted in a post fight interview that retirement might be waiting for him sometime in the not too distant future. We now know that this is not the case, as MMA's worst-kept secret is now out of the bag: former number-one heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko will fight current Strikeforce light heavyweight champion Dan Henderson July 30 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

Despite some initial reports that the fight would be contested at a catch-weight, we now know that the combatants will have the full range of the heavyweight division's 265-pound weight-limit at their disposal. The confusion was created when Scott Coker made the official announcement on Saturday that the two MMA legends would in fact be fighting in July and that the fight would take place at a 220 pound limit. Moments later, however, the official press release detailed a heavyweight contest.

Henderson immediately cleared things up when he took to his official Twitter account, declaring "the fight is at heavyweight".

The hard hitting Russian, though gracious in defeat, will be eager to get back in the cage and score a much needed victory. While Fedor is widely regarded as one of the best fighters of all time, Henderson is no slouch. Although a wrestler at heart, Henderson's famous 'H-Bomb' is a deal breaker when it lands – just ask Rafael Cavalcante, Renato Sobral, Michael Bisping, and Wanderlei Silva.

This fight may be the best main event in the history of Strikeforce, and with Zuffa's recent acquisition of the promotion many are of the opinion that Strikeforce may not be around for very much longer. But hey, there's no better way to go out than with a bang!
