MMA Combat - Media Blitz: Evans on with Jimmy Fallon, Franklin's Life Story Sold

Late Night with Jimmy Fallon will welcome former UFC light heavyweight champion, and UFC 133 headliner, "Suga" Rashad Evans on its Friday edition July 29, airing at 12:35am EST on NBC.

Evans is expected to discuss his main-event bout, August 6, when he takes on a resurgent Tito Ortiz at UFC 133, live from the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The two battled to a hard-fought unanimous draw in 2007, however, Ortiz was penalized a point in the second round for grabbing onto the octagon fence during an Evans take-down attempt.

Evans will also field questions surrounding his well publicized split from Team Jackson, and the rivalries that have blossomed in the wake of that departure, particularly with regards to his relationship with current champ, Jon Jones.

It has also been reported that former UFC middleweight champion, Rich Franklin, has sold his life story to production company, Double E Pictures, who will develop a film with David Hollander writing the script, and Mathew Cullan as the project's executive producer.

Wednesday, Franklin had the following to say regarding his latest opportunity:

"I'm excited to see the story of my career as a fighter brought to the screen, and I feel confident that the team assembled will do a great job in telling this story,"

According to the official release, American Fighter will chronicle Franklin's life from the time he was a high school math teacher, to his ascent up the MMA ranks on self-taught skills, culminating with his reign as the UFC middleweight champion.

MMA Combat - Ortiz Faces Evans at UFC 133

UFC President Dana White announced on Wednesday via his twitter account that "The Huntington Beach Badboy" Tito Ortiz (16-8-1) will replace Phil Davis in the main-event at UFC 133, scheduled to take place August 6, 2011, at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Despite initially turning down the bout, Ortiz had a change of heart and answered the call; White made it clear to MMA Junkie that the former 205lbs champion's future with the promotion is no longer on the line heading into the contest.

"Tito turned it down, and then Tito called back and said, 'Did you get the fight yet?' I said, 'Nope.' He goes, 'Let me think about it. Let me talk to my team, and I'll call you back tomorrow.' This was Tuesday night," White said. "The storyline is what's so interesting. Tito went from 'You're about to be cut,' to now, if he beats Rashad Evans, he's back in the mix. He's back in the picture."

Ortiz last appeared at UFC 132 - Cruz vs. Faber II, July 2, where he upset top light heavyweight Ryan Bader, catching him in a first round Guillotine choke after flooring him with a short right uppercut. The bout next month will be a rematch of their UFC 73 showdown, when Ortiz and Evans battled to a unanimous draw due to a point deduction in the second round when Ortiz grabbed a hold of the fence during an Evans takedown attempt. This time, the stakes couldn't be higher for both men.

Meanwhile, White had some choice words for the Machida camp who according to the president accepted the bout before re-nagging and demanding 'Anderson Silva money.'

"Machida accepted the fight," White told MMAjunkie.com. "We knew for a couple days this was going down, and Machida accepted the fight. Then when we called back and said, 'OK, we're going to make this fight,' Machida's people came back and said, 'We'll tell you what. You pay us what you pay Anderson Silva, and we'll take the fight.' This was after they had already agreed to take the fight. I said, 'Are you [expletive] kidding me? I'll tell you what. You tell Machida he achieves what [expletive] Anderson Silva has achieved, then maybe he'll make Anderson Silva money. Have a nice day.'"

So there you have it; Evans vs. Ortiz II will headline UFC 133, Saturday August 6, available on UFC.tv or PPV. Saturday, July2, 2011 UFC 132 - Cruz vs. Faber went live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event was headlined by the first ever UFC bantamweight title defense when Urijah Faber challenged Dominick Cruz for the newly minted UFC gold.

Utilizing his superior footwork, Cruz - although hit more than he is accustomed to - danced his way to a unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the bout in his favor (50-45, 49-46, 48-47). With the victory, Cruz retains the bantamweight title and avenges his 2007 loss to Faber, the lone blemish on the young champion's career. A fast-paced five round affair that saw neither man gain significant advantage over the other, the contest won fight of the night honors allowing the 135lbs stars to pocket an additional $75 000 each.

In the co-main event, Chris Leben added to his tally of knockout victims with a swift stoppage of former PRIDE FC middleweight champion Wanderlei Silva at 0:27 of the very first round. As the fighters engaged, a free-swinging Silva clipped Leben as he pressed forward, but a series of short, counter-uppercuts buckled Silva in what could be the biggest win of Leben's career to date, and potentially, the last time we see "The Axe Murderer" inside the octagon as was hinted by UFC president, Dana White.

Taking home knockout of the night, Team Jackson's Carlos Condit made short work of Korean ace Dong Hyun Kim, catching him with a flying knee that sent Kim crashing into the cage before a series of punches solidified the finish with the referee's interjection. Condit continues to push up the welterweight ranks, and with a stale list of contenders at the top, could realize a title crack against teammate Georges St. Pierre, should St. Pierre defend later this year against Nick Diaz.

Submission of the night went to none other than "The Huntington Beach Badboy" Tito Ortiz who shocked the MMA world making quick work of Ryan Bader. Catching "Darth" with a short right that put him on the canvas, Ortiz followed up with some ground and pound before a recovering Bader shot for a single-leg takedown to regain his whits; but Ortiz in anticipation of the shot immediately locked up an arm-in Guillotine choke that forced the tap at 1:56 of round 1. The victory was Ortiz's first since 2006, and with his back against the wall, it looks as though the longest running UFC light heavyweight champion in history will get his opportunity to grace the octagon once more.
