Fitch Injures Knee, Off of July’s UFC on Fuel TV 4 Card

Fitch Injures Knee, Off of July’s UFC on Fuel TV 4 Card

Perennial top-ten welterweight, Jon Fitch (23-4-1), is the latest competitor to suffer an injury setback as the one-time title challenger has injured his knee, forcing his withdrawal from UFC on Fuel TV 4 where he was to meet "A-Train" Aaron Simpson in the Power MMA representative's debut at 170lbs.
Multiple accredited sources confirmed the news Sunday.
The event will go live from the HP Pavilion in San Jose, California, and will feature a middleweight main-event when top contenders Mark Munoz and Chris Weidman come to blows in an effort to inch ever closer to a title shot at 185lbs.
Fitch [34], is coming off what was the most disappointing calendar year of the grinding wrestler's career, as the AKA representative went 0-1-1 against the likes of B.J Penn and Johny Hendricks with another sidelining injury sandwiched between appearances.  His most recent outing against Hendricks marked the shortest fight of his professional career, when the Oklahoma native put Fitch to sleep with a thudding left hand just twelve seconds into the bout.
To the contrary, Simpson posted three consecutive wins in 2011, besting Mario Miranda, Brad Tavares, and Eric Schafer, all by unanimous decision before Ronny Markes halted his momentum in February of this year with a split-decision win of his own at UFC on Fuel TV: Sanchez vs. Ellenberger.  The thirty-seven year old, fighting out of Phoenix, Arizona, has been stopped only once in fourteen professional appearances.
