UFC 145 - Jones vs. Evans, Results and Bonuses - MMA Combat

Saturday, April 21, 2012, the Ultimate Fighting Championship went live from Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia, for UFC 145 - Jones vs. Evans, which featured a light heavyweight title clash between former teammates Jon "Bones" Jones and "Suga" Rashad Evans.

In the co-main event, top Canadian talent, Rory MacDonald, battled one of the UK's best in Che Mills; while Brendan Schaub and Miguel Torres sought to get back into title contention with wins over veteran slugger Ben Rothwell and rising star Michael McDonald respectively.

Talking Points
Although it lacked that one definitive moment many were hoping for, the main-event served as further demonstration of the dominance champion Jon "Bones" Jones has exhibited over the light heavyweight ranks. Jones picked Evans apart from the outside over five rounds, peppering him with jabs, short hooks, and elbows to sweep the judges' cards with a lopsided unanimous decision. Looking forward, UFC president Dana White has already announced former Strikeforce champion, Dan Henderson, as the division's number one contender. Video highlights of the main-event HERE.

In the co-main event, Canadian standout Rory MacDonald showed once again why he is so highly touted when he battered British striking specialist, Che Mills, culminating with a second round TKO stoppage as MacDonald rained down blows from the back-mount position. Expect the Tristar product to draw a top-five opponent for his next assignment, possibly the winner of Koscheck vs. Hendricks which will take place in two weeks time at UFC on FOX 3. Video highlights of the TKO stoppage HERE.

Ben Rothwell picked up knockout of the night honors and a $65 000 bonus by stopping Brendan Schaub with a short counter-left hook. The punch that ended Schaub's night happened little more than sixty seconds into the first round as the Drudge Training Center representative suffered his second consecutive KO loss. Video highlights of the knockout HERE.

Travis Browne was your submission of the night recipient, locking onto a fight-ending Arm-Triangle Choke two and a half minutes into round one against Strikeforce convert, Chad Griggs. The finish was Browne's second by submission, and eleventh stoppage victory in thirteen appearances, earning him $65 000 in addition to his show/win purse.

Fight of the night went to Mark Hominick and Eddie Yagin, who went three hard rounds against one another in a fight that saw Yagin narrowly edge Hominick via decision. The loss was the third-consecutive for Hominick who poured on the pressure late, but was unable to overcome a rough start in the eyes of the judges. Both men earned $65 000 for their effort.

Michael McDonald sent a message loud and clear to the rest of the bantamweight division when he brutally knocked out former WEC king, Miguel Torres, just three minutes into their contest. The fight-ending combination was the most clinical finish of the night, as McDonald tagged Torres with a beautiful right-uppercut that would send the former champ crumpling to the canvas.
